"Dear Mr. President" at the Cairo Atelier

With the support of Pro Helvetia, the Swiss Arts Council, Swiss artist Jean-Luc Marchina sends an open letter to the new president of Egypt, Dr. Mohamed Morsi. "Dear Mr. President" is the title of his multimedia project that will be exhibited at the Cairo Atelier (2 Sharia Karim al-Dawla, Downtown, Phone 2 2574 6730) from Sunday July 29 to Friday August 3, 2012 daily from 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM.

The art work consists of a publication and a series of video interviews, presenting portraits of young Egyptian men and women in their daily life. They talk about their thoughts on elections, their wishes for the future, and expectations from their new elected president.
Since the start of the Egyptian revolution in 2011, the young generation has expressed an unavoidable desire for change to a better and fairer life. They are believed to represent the hope and the future of Egypt. "On my previous residency in Cairo in 2007, I made short films on people working and living in the streets. This year, after Egypt has experienced some regionally influential events, I have carried out my artistic work on the important topic of the youth who represent nearly a quarter of the Egyptian population”, says Marchina.

In addition, Marchina will present “Mobile Art School”, a project that was a result of visual art workshops designed for deprived children, and have been conducted in the Roma and Egyptian communities in Albania and Kosovo from 2010 to 2011 with the support of ARSIS and "Terre des hommes".
