Record release from MASCARA (a.k.a. Massive Scar Era)

Following their success at last spring "Girls Rock" competition and a concert tour in the USA, the hardcore rock band Mascara (a.k.a. Massive Scar Era) from Alexandria have just released an EP, titled "Unfamiliar Territory". You can hear it on their MySpace page and purchase it at their concerts.

"Garbage Dreams" at Darb 1718

Darb 1718 Contemporary Art and Culture Center will host the screening of the film “Garbage Dreams", which is supported through CIM (Center for International Migration) on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 8:30 PM.

 “Garbage Dreams” is a film by Mai Iskander (Producer, Director and Cinematographer) and a proud winner of 22 awards.  It recounts the lives of three youth growing up in the world’s largest garbage village, Manshiet Nasser, with the Zabaleen (Arabic for “Garbage People”), and shows a community making a living of collecting and re-cycling Cairo’s garbage.

After the film screening  viewers will have the chance to meet two of the characters playing in the film, who are from Manshiet Nasser, and to listen to a short presentation on garbage segregation.
