In these pages you will hopefully find interesting tips on how to take advantage of Cairo's many cultural opportunities, with particular attention to live events. Cairo Live Events Guide does not pretend to be exhaustive but will try to cover main events open to the public.

NASS MAKAN

I have been for quite some time a passionate supporter of MAKAN for the intimate atmosphere and friendliness that radiates from the place during performances, but my experience had been so far limited, for various reasons, to the shows of the Mazaher Ensemble on Wednesdays.
Yesterday I finally managed to keep the evening free and attend the concert of Nass Makan (People of Makan), ... and what an experience it was!

The most unlikely blend of instruments (electric bass, saxophone and drums, side by side with arghoul, kawwala, tambura and an impressive array of percussion instruments), brilliantly played by the performers and accompanied by wonderful voices, conjure a sound difficult to categorize but extremely powerful both in its most reflective moments and in its wild ballads.
To know more about what lies behind this project I think that the best thing is to direct you to the page dedicated to it on the MAKAN website (click here); what I can tell you is that you will not forget easily a Tuesday evening spent at Makan and that you will probably keep on going, ... and going.

The concert start at 9:00 sharp and lasts about two hours, with a 20 minutes break in which you can help yourself with free mint tea and karkade. The entrance fee is 30 EGP.
