SANAA MOUSSA (Palestine) at the Geneina Theatre


On Sunday August 04, 2013 at 9:00 PM the Palestinian singer SANAA MOUSSA will perform at the Geneina Theatre in Al Azhar Park for the closing night of Mawred's Hayy Festival.

Sanaa Moussa was born in the Palestinian village Deir Al-Asad in the Galilee. Her father is a well known musician and singer who excelled at singing folkloric songs of Syria, Egypt and Iraq. That was the trigger for Sanaa’s connection to classic Arabic music and in particular the Palestinian folk.

In 2003 she received training and performed at the Oriental Music Center. Startin in 2004, she has been performing classic and folkloric songs at several festival across the Arab World and Europe. In 2008 she founded her own band and called it “Naw Athar”. The band presents folkloric songs in new arrangements while maintaining their oriental flavor.

KHANSA BATMA (Morocco) at the Hayy Festival TONIGHT


Tonight, Friday August 02, 2013 at 9:00 PM the Moroccan singer KHANSA BATMA will perform at the Geneina Theatre in Al Azhar Park in the framework of Mawred's Hayy Festival.

Khansaa Batma was born in Casablanca. She joined the Casablanca Conservatoire at the age of nine. The kick start of her career was a 2001 debut album entitled “Sharq wa Gharb” which featured folkloric Moroccan songs with European sounding arrangement, and international folklore songs with Moroccan instrument arrangement. In 2003, she released her second album “Ala Abwab El Sahra” or (On the gates of the Desert). This album describes a lost soul’s journey from Spain to Sudan and through North Africa. Her third album “The Dark Album” achieved huge commercial success among the youth; songs like “Barano”, “Gharani” and “Nestahel” were very popular. Batma’s songs bring together Arabic and Moroccan rhythms blended with Rock.

MICHELLE ROUNDS New Album Release


Cairo based Jazz singer MICHELLE ROUNDS has just released her latest work under the title "Michelle Rounds and Her Amazing Friends". The album is a compilation of previously sold out works and new originals from 1993 - 2013 including performances by Tui Ravai, Vili Tuilaucala, & Paul Stevens. MAWAWEEL TONIGHT!


The final event of the MAWAWEEL Festival is finally confirmed and set for tonight Thursday August 1, 2013 starting 8:00 PM at Darb 1718
The evening will feature very exciting musical acts (Basheer, Salalem and Massar Egbari) and performances such as tahteeb, tannoura and fire dancing.
