"Travelling through…"

OBJECT: Ricerca e Cooperazione and El Sawy Culture are organizing an International Photo Contest in the framework of the project "Words and Notes-A Visual travel between Music and Literature" funded by the Delegation of the European Commission in Egypt.

The photo contest aims at stimulating creativity and imagination in photography among Egyptian and international photographers, and at providing the winners with an opportunity for exhibiting their works.

WHAT: The theme of this Photo Contest is: “Travelling through...”.

We are looking for your own personal vision of travel. Photos may characterize your idea of travel in all its meaning: travelling to other places, travelling into places, travelling through the mind or with the mind, travelling through the taste and the sight, travelling through fantasy. The images should reflect the different representations of travel you have and you image. Images will be judged for their creativity, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit as well as for the personal idea of travelling that the photographer conveys. Although more than one image per photographer will be selected, the jury will consider the three photos to be submitted altogether, and will evaluate the quality and consistency of the work.

WHO: This Photo Contest is open to all amateur (non professional) photographers living all around the world. Participants must be at least 16 years old.

HOW: Each participant must submit three photos, responding to the theme of the Contest. Entries shall be color or black and white digital files and hard copy (35x45 cm). (Original slides or negatives must be available for scanned photographs, but should not be sent unless requested). Images may be digitally enhanced to remove spots or scratches, but not manipulated. Entrants can enhance the picture to make it brighter or clearer, but not digitally manipulate the content. The judges reserve the right to exclude any photo submitted which they believe may have been excessively treated.

Each photo file must bear the photographer's name, country abbreviation and the photo entry number (1 to 3). For example: MohamedAhmar_Eg_1.jpeg

In a separate, single sheet of paper include full name, address of residence, phone number, occupation and email address. For each photo please mention the title, caption, the camera used and a brief description of where, when and how the photograph was taken.

The entries that do not respect these criteria will not be eligible.

"I CENTO PASSI" at AUC

One of the best Italian movies of the decade will be screened tomorrow, Wednesday May 13 at 7:00 PM in the Blue Room of AUC Greek Campus in Tahrir.
"I cento passi" (The 100 Steps) by Marco Tullio Giordana, 2001, is the story of Luigi Impastato, a communist sympathizer and activist born into a mafia family in Sicily. The movie, based on a real story, reconstructs his life and celebrates the struggle against the mafia-led social system, beautifully depicting the domestic tragedy of a family split by two opposite forces: the ideal of a free society and the respect for paternal authority.

The movie will be in Italian language with English subtitles. Free entry.

NO NASS MAKAN CONCERT TONIGHT!

Tonight's performance at the Makan has been canceled.
The Mazaher Ensemble will play tomorrow as scheduled.

XAVIER LE ROY at EL SAWI

From what I see around, this looks somehow a neglected event from the advertising perspective, and that's why rather than fill it in the weekly Agenda, I decided to have a separate post for it.

The French dancer Xavier Le Roy will present his solo work based on Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring", tomorrow, Sunday May 10, 2009 at 7:00 PM at El Sawi Cultural Centre in Zamalek. The work was premiered in June 2007 in Lyon and has since then travelled to Switzerland, Germany, Brazil, USA, Italy, the UK and other countries.

This is modern dance, and might be different from the kind of performances that many of you associate with the word "dance", but it is not less interesting ... and far more modern! To avoid surprises, it might be worth to have a look at Xavier Le Roy website where you can find details about this work. Just click here!
