December 11, NAGUIB MAHFOUZ birthday
Today, the great Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz would have been 98 years old. He left us an incredible amount of wonderful books. I had read already some and admired him both as a writer and a person when I arrived in Cairo, just few days before his death. I remember watching his funerary procession live in the hotel television and I recall how moved I was.
He wrote in one of his books "Seeing that everything eventually disappears, sorrow will certainly not be the exception to the rule". He might be right, but today, more than three years later, I am still sorry he is not with us anymore.
