In these pages you will hopefully find interesting tips on how to take advantage of Cairo's many cultural opportunities, with particular attention to live events. Cairo Live Events Guide does not pretend to be exhaustive but will try to cover main events open to the public.

Zikr and Sufi Songs at the MakAn

During the month of Ramadan the MakAn presents every wednesday at 9:00 PM a performance with Zikr and Sufi Songs.

The inshad is a melodic vocal performance set in religious contexts, most notably in the context of the hadra of Sufi brotherhoods. Dhikr or "remembrance" (of Allah) refers to rhythmic chanting of the names of Allah.
Zikr and Inshad can be found in the context of public celebrations, such as saints' festivals (the mulid), the Prophet's birthday and celebrations of rites of passage, such as memorials, circumcisions and, in Upper Egypt, weddings. These draw a wide range of participants, both men and women, and comprise a mix of adherents to particular Sufi brotherhoods, as well as general public coming for the ecstatic emotional and spiritual experience.

Doors open at 8:30pm.
Tickets: 20 LE with reservation, 30 LE at the door
Ps: Reservations cancelled after 9:00pm

Tea and Karkade are served
