In these pages you will hopefully find interesting tips on how to take advantage of Cairo's many cultural opportunities, with particular attention to live events. Cairo Live Events Guide does not pretend to be exhaustive but will try to cover main events open to the public.

Writer Gilbert Sinoué in Egypt

Egyptian-French writer, Gilbert Sinoué, will participate in several events during a week he will spend in Cairo. Born in Cairo in 1947, he left Egypt in 1965 to study classic guitar in France. He wrote songs for famous French singers like Claude François, Dalida, and others. When he turned forty, he decided to write his first novel “Le Pourpre et l’Olivier” (about Pope Calixthe 1st, who was a slave and became a Pope). Success came immediately. He wrote a total of 21 novels, selling over 3 million copies worldwide. His works have been translated into 15 languages, including Arabic (4 titles available in most local bookstores). His latest two novels (Le Souffle du Jasmin and Le Cri des Pierres) are the story of four families (Egyptian, Palestinian, Jewish, Iraqi) from 1920 till 1990. Through their lives, it is the whole history of the Middle East that is explained, as today’s events in the area can be put in the right perspective only by analyzing what happened in the past.
