DALIA FAROUK
I attended the Cairo Choral Society performance of Händel’s Messiah at the Ewart Memorial Hall and was confronted for the first time with the wonderful voice of Dalia Farouk. Though not an Opera buff, I was really impressed by the beauty of her voice, so I saw it fit to add hers to CLEG Bios, hoping that there will be soon many other opportunities to see her live; I might even be enticed to go more often to see Opera performances...
"Dalia Farouk was 14 when she began her singing studies at the Cairo Conservatory, graduating with honors in 1997. Since then she has studied at UCLA and Julliard, and at Indiana University as a Fulbright scholar. She took a doctorate in singing from l’École Normale de Musique de Paris, also with a scholarship.
Dalia has been a member of the Cairo Opera Company since 1997. Her repertoire include the principal soprano roles in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, L’Elisir d’Amore, La Bohème, Un Ballo in Maschera, The Magic Flute, The Telephone, Don Pasquale, Romeo and Juliet, Suor Angelica, Dido and Aeneas.
She has also performed in The Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, My Fair Lady, West Side Story and Sound of Music. In 2008 she was invited to perform as soloist in the occasion of the International Celebration of France’s Presidency of the European Union, and of the Anniversary of the Cairo Opera House. She is also a recitalist, having performed in Egypt, France, Germany, United States and Morocco."
