The story of Hassan and Naima is an old Egyptian folk story talking about the impossible love between two lovers. Hassan is a poor singer in a folk troupe, performing on weddings. Naima is the daughter of a rich village elder, betrothed to Atwa who only wants to marry her because of her father’s riches. Hassan comes to ask for Naima’s hand, but Atwa vows to kill him.
